Clemson (6-0) vs. Louisville (4-2) Game Preview
Why Louisville Will Win
Trevor Lawrence is still Trevor Lawrence, but he’s still not really playing like it.
He wasn’t needed too much in the blowout win over Florida State – and boo-hoo, he threw three touchdown passes – but he only threw for 170 yards and threw his sixth pick of the season.
Louisville’s pass defense isn’t anything special, but the hope has to be that Lawrence still isn’t about to turn it on. The goal is to make him and Clemson to have to press a wee bit, and that starts with controlling the game and the tempo.
The Cardinal running game has been fantastic, running for 200 yards or more in every game except for the loss to Florida State. The offense grinds out the clock a bit, the passing game is the ACC’s most efficient, and the team controls the clock for close to 32 minutes per game.
At home, the dream is to go all North Carolina and own the tempo, and then hope for Lawrence to be just okay. But …
Why Clemson Will Win
Okay … enough.
Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield is working wonders with a team that was dead last year at this time. It’s playing far, far sharper, it’s being better in several areas, and it’s just good enough to come into this game with the crazy dream of pulling off the home upset not completely and totally insane. And …
The secondary can’t stop anyone’s passing game, and it’s time for Mr. Lawrence to rise up and rock.
The Cardinals have picked off three passes in the last two games – including two in the upset win over Wake Forest – and they’ve been rocked over the last three weeks allowing close to 1,400 yards with 14 touchdowns.
Lawrence really hasn’t been that bad, and the receiving corps continues to be amazing and ready to explode. This is the game to do it all and bomb away.
On the other side, Clemson’s defensive front should be able to have a whole lot of fun against a Louisville offensive line that’s the third-worst in the nation in tackles for loss allowed.

What’s Going To Happen
Louisville will give the fan base hope for something special after a few drives and a few nice moments, and then Clemson will open it up with a few big pass plays to take over and show everyone that it’s still Clemson.
The Tiger offense will be the story – the world really is waiting for Lawrence to be his special self – but the defense will get the job done by living behind the Louisville line.
