Auburn (6-2) vs. Ole Miss (3-5) Game Preview
Why Ole Miss Will Win
Which Bo Nix will Ole Miss get?
The competition makes a big deal with this – obviously – but in five of the six wins, Nix connected on half of his passes or more. He was under 43% in the two losses, and connected on 42% of his throws against Oregon.
Florida and LSU are Florida and LSU, and Nix kept balling and pushing, but he also struggled way too much to keep things moving.
The Auburn D had to do way too much work.
The Ole Miss secondary has spent most of the season getting bombed on, but last week it did a decent job of keeping Kellen Mond and the Texas A&M passing game from going off.
The Rebel defense does a great job of getting behind the line, and it has just enough explosion with the running game to throw the Tigers a bit of a curveball. As good as the Auburn defensive front might be, it spent the better part of last week getting beaten up by LSU’s Clyde Edwards-Helaire. The combination of Scottie Phillips and QB John Rhys Plumlee have to go crazy.
Why Auburn Will Win
About that Bo Nix thing – he’s about to have some fun.
The hope for Ole Miss is that he’s off – and again, there’s enough of a pass rush to get in his face – but before last week’s fight with Texas A&M, the pass defense was obliterated for 300 yards or more in five of the previous six games, and Vanderbilt’s Riley Neal hit the 200-yard mark.
Nix will be fine, but it’ll be the Auburn run defense that should be the star.
The Tigers have yet to allow more than 200 yards on the ground and no one has come up with more than four yards per carry. It starts by getting into the backfield, and no one in the SEC does that better than AU. Florida might have a better pass rush, but the Tigers lead the SEC in tackles for loss.
Get to Phillips and Rhys Plumlee before they can get started, and the Rebel offense stalls – Ole Miss is gives up more tackles for loss than anyone in the SEC.

What’s Going To Happen
There’s still a whole lot for Auburn to play for. Even with losses to Florida and LSU in the last three games, a New Year’s Six game is still in play by losing impressive over the next few weeks – Georgia is up next – before hosing Alabama. Now it’s time to flex a little bit of muscle.
The Rebels will get a few licks in, but Auburn will control the game throughout before pulling away late.
