Auburn (5-1) vs. Arkansas (2-4) Game Preview
Why Arkansas Will Win
The Hogs might not be as exciting as they should be, and they might not be winning games, but they’re far more competitive. They’re losing, but the last three were all by a touchdown or less.
They’re taking the ball away, they’re getting behind the line and generating decent pressure, and the offensive line isn’t all that bad. It’s a team that hasn’t had a whole lot of luck and might just be on the verge of turning the corner with a little more offense.
Auburn QB Bo Nix will throw picks, the passing game is just okay, and there’s a chance the Tigers could be looking ahead to the showdown at LSU next week. Auburn will give up passing yards and the Hogs hit the 300-yard mark or were close to it for most of the season, but …
Why Auburn Will Win
The Arkansas offense sputtered and coughed last week with just 122 passing yards in the loss to Kentucky. The ground game worked, but that’s not happening against the Auburn defensive front. The Hogs have to throw to win, and they’re not going to be able to do it consistently enough.
There’s not enough of a downfield passing game in the short to midrange throws to scare the Tiger defensive backs, and the line won’t be able to handle the AU line that should live in the backfield for stretches, especially on third downs.
The Auburn running game might not have JaTarvious Whitlow – the star running back doesn’t have a knee injury – but this is the team to go against if you’re trying to figure out the running back rotation. There’s talent and depth in the backfield, motivation won’t be an issue, and they’re all going against the SEC’s second-worst run defense.

What’s Going To Happen
Yeah, Arkansas is more competitive, and yeah, it seems like it’s about to be better with a few key plays against the right team at the right time, but two of those close losses were to San Jose State and Kentucky – it’s not like it’s battling with Alabama and LSU.
Auburn is rested with two weeks off, and it’s not playing like a team that’s about to brain-cramp. Like all AU games, it might not be anything aesthetically pleasing. but look for the ground game to make a point of getting the new parts involved to show that there’s still life after Whitlow. The Tiger D will take care of the rest.
