Arizona State (5-2) vs. UCLA (2-5) Game Preview
Why Arizona State Will Win
Is this when the defense shows up again?
The Arizona State D was a dominant force over the first part of the season, but it’s started to have problems here and there against the better passing teams. That’s not UCLA, who has to run to win, and won’t be able to do it.
How have the Bruins become more dangerous and competitive? It’s that ground attack, running for 200 yards or more in the last three games after gettin the ball rolling with a 150-yard day in that wild win over Washington State.
The passing game is working, but the downfield throws aren’t quite there. ASU’s secondary will be able to hold up against this Bruin receiving corps, but it’s the defensive front that should dominate from the start.
A grinding Utah team ran for three scores last week against the Sun Devils, but that’s not UCLA.

The secondary might be having issues holding up, and it’s giving up way too many yards, but the ASU offense would prefer to work around Eno Benjamin and the ground attack that would love to control the tempo. UCLA, though, is doing a great job coming up with tackles for loss, living in the backfield in last week’s win over Stanford and able to generate plenty of pressure.
Offensively, Joshua Kelley emergence back into his role as the main man has made a huge difference. The two 100-yard games in the last three dates have helped the cause, and he ripped up Stanford last week for close to ten yards per carry.
Overall, UCLA is still getting roasted for not being better, but it’s getting better and better as the season has gone on. Arizona State is just inconsistent enough to have problems on the road, but …

What’s Going To Happen
The Bruins will need to run for 200 yards, and they’ll struggle getting to 150. On the other side, Jayden Daniels will bounce back from his 4-of-18 performance against Utah to bomb away on a Bruin defense that gives up well over 300 yards per game.
UCLA won’t get rolled – it really is playing better – but very quietly, Arizona State becomes bowl eligible and keeps its faint Pac-12 title hopes alive.
