Oklahoma (3-0) vs. Texas Tech (2-1) Game Preview
Why Texas Tech Will Win
What is this defense that the kids are all into nowadays?
What’s been the biggest change so far under new head coach Matt Wells? The Red Raiders are hitting, doing a great job of coming up with third down stops, locking down with three picks over the last two games, and coming up with just enough plays behind the line to be disruptive.
Last year at this time after three games, Texas Tech had allowed 96 – and that was with a shutout over Lamar. This season, the Red Raiders have allowed 41 points as they’re doing a better job of controlling games.
The D already had the almost perfect tune-up for Jalen Hurts going against Arizona’s Khalil Tate two weeks ago, holding him to 185 passing yards with a touchdown pass and two picks. He was able to take off and run a bit, but overall, it was a decent day from the D.
But …
Why Oklahoma Will Win
Khalil Tate was able to run enough to get the Arizona O moving.
In a perfect world, Hurts isn’t the team’s leading rusher and he’s able to spread the ball around a bit to his other weapons, but he’s just too dangerous taking off. Tate ran for 124 yards on the Texas Tech D, and Hurts has rushed for 150 yards or more in two of his first three games.
Texas Tech’s offense has been okay so far, and now it doesn’t have its star quarterback as it goes on the road to keep pace with this Oklahoma juggernaut
The Red Raider attack is now Jett Duffey or bust. Rice transfer Jackson Tyler might be in the mix for playing time, but with star QB Alan Bowman out with a shoulder injury, Duffey needs to be able to match Hurts and big play for big play, and that hasn’t happened yet under the new coaching staff.
The Sooners have been flawless so far with Hurts at the helm. They’re second in the nation in rushing, second in third down conversions, second in scoring offense, and they lead the nation in yards per game. The Texas Tech offense isn’t going to be able to fire back.

What’s Going To Happen
Get ready for both Duffey and Tyner to play for the Red Raiders to show a few different options and looks, and get ready for it to work.
The Texas Tech offense has been okay so far, but it’s about to start to be far more effective and a wee bit more explosive …
After Oklahoma goes up big early on.
The Sooners will get out to a big first quarter lead on three good scoring drives, and Texas Tech will be playing catch-up the rest of the way. Just when it seems like the Red Raiders will make a charge, Hurts will take OU on another scoring drive.
