Maryland (2-0) vs. Temple (1-0) Game Preview
Why Maryland Will Win
The Maryland offense is humming on all cylinders.
The 79-0 win over Temple wasn’t without its charm, but the 63-20 annihilation of Syracuse became a national thing. Now the Terps lead the nation in scoring offense after two weeks with an unstoppable attack with a running game that’s ripping off big run after big run, and a passing game that started out sharp with former QB Josh Jackson under center.
Can Temple do anything to slow this thing down?
But it’s not just the offense. The defensive front is living into the backfield with 12 sacks so far including hit after hit against Syracuse. Temple has a good team with a strong offense, but it’s about to be under pressure all game long on both lines.
Why Temple Will Win
It’s just one week against Bucknell, but Temple’s offense came out rolling right away under new head coach Rod Carey. The running game was able to get several parts involved, the midrange passing game under QB Anthony Russo connected on several big plays, and now the team had a week off to get ready and regroup.
This is a sound Owl team on both sides of the ball with a defense that has the upside to figure this thing out.
The top seven tacklers are back, the linebacking corps is loaded with big veterans who can move – they have to stop everything at the second level against the Terps – an the secondary might be the best in the American Athletic Conference.
What’s Going To Happen
Just how for real is the Maryland attack? It’s been great so far, but Carey’s teams at Northern Illinois had the talent and ability bog things down. Now he has more talent to work with at Temple.
This isn’t going to be the total wipeout the Syracuse game was, and the Owls will come up with enough big plays on their own to keep up the pace. The offensive line is good enough to keep the Terps from living behind the line, but as the game goes on, Maryland will come through in the fourth quarter to put it away.
It’ll have to sweat for the first time all year, though.
