UConn (1-1) vs. Indiana (2-1) Game Preview

Why UConn Will Win

The Huskies are better. They might not be ready to challenge for the American Athletic title, and there’s nothing special about what they do, but they’re not even close to being as miserable as they were last season.

The defense isn’t a rock, but it’s … 18th in the nation? The secondary hasn’t been bad over the first two games, and the run defense wasn’t totally destroyed by Illinois. Last year after two weeks, the Huskies gave up 696 rushing yards. This season? 233.

Indiana’s running game isn’t getting going – it was stuffed by Ohio State for just 42 yards – but it wasn’t working well against Eastern Illinois and Ball State, either.

The UConn pass rush has been solid, and it should be able to bother any of the IU quarterbacks who get a shot. Main man Michael Penix has been banged up, and Peyton Ramsey struggled last week against Ohio State.

Why Indiana Will Win

UConn might be better and is improved, but it still lost to Illinois and struggled way too much to get by Wagner.

The Huskies don’t have any semblance of a ground game for Indiana to worry about, and the offensive line isn’t good enough to generate any sort of a push.

IU got run all over by a slew of big plays from the Ohio State ground game, but Ball State didn’t go anywhere in the opener, and Eastern Illinois didn’t go anywhere with just 52 rushing yards. It’s going to take the UConn passing game to pull this off, and it hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass yet to go along with three picks.

What’s Going To Happen

UConn will be far more competitive and tougher than Indiana might have expected before the season started, but it’s not going to be able to keep up with the offensive balance. The Huskies ran for just ten yards against Illinois, and it’s not going to do a whole lot more than that in Bloomington.
