Boston College (2-0) vs. Kansas (1-1) Game Preview

Why Kansas Will Win

It’s only been two weeks under head coach Les Miles, with games against Indiana State and Coastal Carolina, but the defense is doing a nice job.

It’s getting off the field with a whole lot of stuffs on third downs, and it’s managing to hold firm in the red zone so far. This is a ball-hawking group that was great last season at keeping the team in games with big plays, and it should do it from time to time again.

Boston College has had a few problems against the run so far – it got hit for 215 yards on the ground against Richmond – and Pooka Williams showed last week just how important he is. He was suspended in the opener, but last week ran for 99 yards without a whole lot of big runs. However …

Why Boston College Will Win

The Kansas passing game didn’t have it against a Coastal Carolina team with its mind partially on the hurricane concerns.

Carter Stanley threw for 107 yards with two picks, there wasn’t anything happening down the field, and the offense failed to put a point on the board after the first quarter. Now the Jayhawks have to deal with a BC defense that’s among the best in the nation at getting in the backfield.

The Eagle offense has a deep and talented group of runners around AJ Dillon, Anthony Brown is playing like the veteran quarterback that he is, and the big plays are happening down the field.

And yes, Kansas is going to be good this year at taking the ball away, but Boston College leads the nation in turnover margin with seven takeaways so far. So …

What’s Going To Happen

Kansas is in huge trouble if it doesn’t play night-and-day better than it did in the loss to the Chanticleers. The Eagles are too strong on both sides of the ball, the offense is too balanced, and the defense is too disruptive for this to be close.
