Alabama (4-0) vs. Ole Miss (2-2) Game Preview
Why Ole Miss Will Win
It’s not all that long ago that Ole Miss pushed Alabama as far as anyone has in the Nick Saban era.
Okay, so it seems like it happened in an entire different time, but the Rebels beat the Tide in 2014 and 2015 and came really, really close in 2016 …
And then lost the last two seasons by a combined score of 128-10. But this Bama secondary does appear to be a wee bit vulnerable if a quarterback can get hot early on – it got hit for 324 yards by South Carolina’s Ryan Hilinski – and there’s not much coming from the pass rush.
On the other side, the Ole Miss pass rush has been good, the D can get into the backfield on a regular basis, and there’s a good chance that this group will get to Tua Tagovailoa better than anyone else has all season long.
It’s going to have to take something special from a Rebel defense that’s been able to keep Memphis, Cal and Arkansas from doing too much, because …
Why Alabama Will Win
The main man on the Rebel offense isn’t at 100%. If QB Matt Corral can go, he’s going to be limited with bruised ribs suffered in the loss to Cal.
John Rhys Plumlee has hit all seven of his throws so far this season, and Grant Tisdale is a great-looking prospect, but throwing freshmen at the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa isn’t a positive.
It keeps getting blown off how amazing Tua Tagovailoa and the Alabama offense are right now. This attack is beyond flawless, with Tagovailoa hitting 81% of his passes last week against Southern Miss with five scores, and on the year he’s hitting 78% of his throws with 17 touchdowns and no picks.
How easy is the Tide offense making this? The superstar NFL-caliber receivers are good-natured arguing about who gets to hit the next home run – and they’re all getting their chances to eat.
Best of all for the Bama attack, it’s not screwing up. It’s able to take plenty of deep shots and lots of chances, and it’s all working without any major issues. The Tide have only given away one turnover so far.
What’s Going To Happen
It might not be 62-7 or 66-3 like the last few seasons, but it won’t be far off.
Watch out for Ole Miss to be plucky for a quarter and keep the Tide offense from ending this after 15 minutes, but it won’t last long. Bama’s attack will hit its normal array of home runs to take this out of the competitive phase by halftime.
