10. Tulane at Auburn

LINE: Auburn -17.5, o/u: 51.5

You’re banking on the Tulane defense. Auburn will win, but coming off the tough, physical game against Oregon, don’t expect the offense to be sharp. The veteran Green Wave defense is good enough to keep the score low, and there’s a shot the Auburn D shuts down the Tulane O cold. Be sort of stunned if either team rolls past 30 points.

9. Illinois at UConn

LINE: Illinois -20.5, o/u: 59.5

There’s a caveat here. It’s Week 2, and there’s a chance this goes way, way, way the other way if the UConn defense turns back into the version of the 2018 UConn D. If that’s the case, Illinois could win this 58-3. The Illini offense was great in the opener against Akron, but even if it blows up on the road, watch out for the defense to hold down the Husky offense that sputtered against Wagner. Don’t expect both teams to hang in the 30s.

8. Rutgers at Iowa

LINE: Iowa -19.5, o/u: 48.5

You always want to be on the over when one of the teams has the potential to cover the number by itself. Rutgers might be better this year, and the defense isn’t too miserable, but at home, Iowa has the ability to get at least 40 of this. Even if it’s at around 30, the Scarlet Knights have enough of an offense to help the cause. Expect these two to match the 14-7 final score from their 2016 meeting in the first quarter.

7. Ohio at Pitt

LINE: Pitt -5.5, o/u: 54.5

Don’t get hung up on the 14 points scored by Pitt in the loss to Virginia – this is going to be a sneaky-good offensive game. To go elitist, the Panther offense – which is a whole lot better than it looked last week – should be able to put up at least 28 points against an Ohio team that’s good, but allowed that many or more six times last season. The Bobcats are dangerous enough to score at least 20, and more like 28 in this.

6. Oregon State at Hawaii

LINE: Hawaii -5.5, o/u: 78.5

It’s not smart, it’s not sound, and it’s not the way you should look at things in a professional sort of way, but …

OF COURSE you want the over in a Hawaii game that’s going until 2 am on the East Coast.

After putting up 45 on Arizona – even with six turnovers – you really think Hawaii isn’t going to hang up at least that many against an Oregon State defense that got hit for 52 by Oklahoma State? The Cowboys have a Power Five defense – not a great one, but they have athletes – and Oregon State was able to bomb away for 36 points.

Both teams will play in the 40s. You’re not skipping sleep for anything less.
