Northern Illinois (0-0) vs. Illinois State (0-0) Game Preview
What’s Going To Happen
New Northern Illinois head coach Thomas Hammock gets to deal with a good Illinois State team coming off a disappointing 6-5 season. Brock Spack’s team has a fantastic running back in James Robinson to go along with what should be a killer FCS defense.
Northern Illinois will get a chance to showcase its entire backfield – with QB Marcus Childers and Cal transfer Ross Bowers each expected to see time – but mostly the goal is to get the offensive line lathered up before the defending MAC champs have to go to Utah.
And to get the passing game going.
Hammock and staff will balance out the O a bit more, all while hoping the pass rush can come in place in a hurry after losing Sutton Smith and Josh Corcoran.
It’ll be rocky for NIU, but it’ll grind through a few misfires in the first quarter and allow the defense and great linebacking corps to take care of the rest.
