Kansas (0-0) vs. Indiana State (0-0) Game Preview
Why Indiana State Will Win
The Sycamores return nine offensive starters from an attack that didn’t screw up. Kansas was able to survive at times last year with big takeaways, and that’s not coming from an ISU team that was No. 1 in the FCS in fewest turnovers lost.
QB Ryan Boyle is back after throwing just three interceptions, he’s got most of his star targets back and four starters return to the offensive line. Time of possession wasn’t a huge deal for the Sycamores last year, but they should be able to control the clock.
Why Kansas Will Win
Even with Pooka Williams suspended for a game, the Jayhawks should be able to run the ball without much of a problem against a rebuilding ISU defense that gave up close to 200 yards per game. There will be a good rotation working behind a not-that-bad offensive front.
The secondary might be KU’s biggest strength early on, and it should be able to hold up well against the Sycamore receivers that can move the chains, but don’t hit a ton of home runs. As long as the Jayhawks can keep everything in front of them, the big plays will be kept to a minimum.
What’s Going To Happen
Indiana State won’t be a pushover.
The Sycamores have the experience and the skill to be just good enough out of the gate to keep Kansas from pulling away until late.
The Jayhawks will get just enough production from the running game to go on two necessary scoring drives in the second half to give Miles a in his first game back, but it won’t be a breeze for the first three quarters.
