Iowa State (0-0) vs. Northern Iowa (0-0) Game Preview
Why Northern Iowa Will Win
The Panthers have to dominate the turnover battle.
There might not be a whole lot happening with the ground game, and the offense isn’t going to be all that explosive, but this is a veteran team that was great at taking the ball away last season and didn’t make a whole lot of mistakes.
UNI gave it away just 14 times and was great at picking off passes and coming up with the big stops at the right time. Xavior Williams leads another strong secondary that should be able to handle a pedestrian Iowa State passing game, but …
Why Iowa State Will Win
UNI won’t have the offense to make much of a dent in the Iowa State defense. Eight starters are back with a loaded line and enough talent to get into the backfield on a regular basis.
The Panthers will need to keep this a low scoring fight and have to take advantage of every opportunity, but the Cyclones won’t have to get too crazy.
Once again this will be an efficient ISU attack that needs new stars to emerge at receiver and running back. Fortunately, the entire starting O line is back and should dominate from the start.
What’s Going To Happen
Iowa State is only 4-3 in the last seven meetings against the school up the road, but this is a different program now. It won’t be anything amazing, and the final score won’t wow anyone nationally, but the Cyclones will methodically push their way to a strong local win before dealing with Iowa.
