Baylor (0-0) vs. Stephen F. Austin (0-0) Game Preview
Why Stephen F. Austin Will Win
The experience is there to be a whole lot better.
The Lumberjacks struggled through a 2-7 season, but with 18 starters back, a good-looking passing game, and enough explosion to hit a few home runs, they should be able to push the Baylor defense a wee bit.
Baylor has a veteran defense returning, but it’s been a rough run over the last few years. The pass defense was par for the course in the Big 12, but the secondary should still give up at least 240 yards to the SFA passing game. However …
Why Baylor Will Win
Baylor should be able to score at will.
It was good last season, and now it should be a controlling force that dominates the time of possession battle and should be ultra-efficient. QB Charlie Brewer will take target practice against the SFA secondary – there won’t be a whole lot of pass rush to worry about.
On the other side, the Bear pass rush that was spotty throughout last season should live behind the Lumberjack line. There might be experience on the SFA offense, but expect it to get stuffed way too often on third downs.
What’s Going To Happen
Baylor will get to call its shot. It’ll come out hot, Brewer will have a big first half, and it’ll be all about the backups in the second half. SFA will come up with a few points late, and the passing game will put up big yards, but this will be ugly early.
