Appalachian State Mountaineers

Current Projected Starter: Zac Thomas, Jr.
Thomas stepped into the starting role and led the way to a Sun Belt title. Junior Jacob Huesman was the key backup last season. Sophomore Tanner Wilson is a decent option, and new recruit David Baldwin is good enough to step in and battle for the No. 2 job.

Arkansas State Red Wolves

Current Projected Starter: Logan Bonner, Jr.
Former North Carolina starter Nathan Elliott is joining the Red Wolves … as a graduate assistant. Bonner was the main backup last season behind Justice Hansen. Senior Carson Coats is the likely No. 2, but ASU could use a boost from one of the freshmen, either Coltin Clack or KaRon Coleman.

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers

Current Projected Starter: Fred Payton, Soph.
Starter Kilton Anderson is transferring out, and now it’s up to sophomores Bryce Carpenter and Fred Payton to battle it out for new head coach Jamey Chadwell. The recruiting class will bring the depth.

Georgia Southern Eagles

Current Projected Starter: Shai Werts, Jr.
Werts is the sure-thing established starter, but who’s the No. 2? Junior Ivan Corbin is battling Jaalon Frazier for the backup job with Corbin – the likely top option behind Werts – a factor despite a minor off-the-field issue.

Georgia State Panthers

Current Projected Starter: Dan Ellington, Sr.
With Aaron Winchester leaving for Central Connecticut State, the battle is on to be the backup behind Ellington. There’s no experience between sophomore Jack Walker and redshirt freshmen Swift Lyle and Nick Iannone.

Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns

Current Projected Starter: Levi Lewis, Jr.
Lewis is a slick veteran who spent last year as a key backup – he stepped up this offseason to make the job his. However, JUCO transfer sophomore Jai’ave Magalei appears to be a player, and freshman Clifton McDowell is good enough to challenge for the No. 2 job.

South Alabama Jaguars

Current Projected Starter: Cephus Johnson, Soph.
With Evan Orth and Cole Garvin done, it’s up to Johnson to step into the starting role as the most experienced option on the roster. However, JUCO transfer Tylan Morton is getting every chance at the job, and freshmen Tanner McGee and Desmond Trotter right there. All of them are tall, big bombers.

Texas State Bobcats

Current Projected Starter: Tyler Vitt, Soph.
Under new head coach Jake Spavital, it’s Vitt’s job to lose. The sophomore was okay last season in place of Willie Jones – who transferred and went the JUCO route – and now it’s a fight for the backup gig. Sophomore Jaylen Gipson has the most experience.

Troy Trojans

Current Projected Starter: Sawyer Smith, Jr.
Senior Kaleb Barker was the starter last season before suffering a knee injury, and now he’s back in the mix. However, Smith turned in a terrific season and has a slight edge above the pack. There are more in the hunt, though, with Vanderbilt transfer Jacob Free an interesting option along with redshirt freshman Gunnar Watson. It’s a great situation overall.

ULM Warhawks

Current Projected Starter: Caleb Evans, Sr.
Evans is the star of the show – and maybe the Sun Belt – with senior JT Jackson and redshirt freshman Colby Suits two other good options who fit the offensive style. They can all move and they’re all dynamic.
