Who are the projected starting quarterbacks for each ACC team?

Boston College Eagles

Current Projected Starter: Anthony Brown, Jr.
Brown is the veteran who was great when healthy, but he was coming off a knee injury and got banged up late in the year. EJ Perry is a solid No. 2 option who saw time behind Brown, and Matt McDonald is in the hunt for the backup job.

Clemson Tigers

Current Projected Starter: Trevor Lawrence, Soph.
Hunter Johnson is going to start at Northwestern, and Kelly Bryant will get the call at Missouri. It would be nice to have those two around for depth, but Lawrence is the obvious superstar for the next two years. Chase Brice – the hero who saved the day against Syracuse – is the backup.

Duke Blue Devils

Current Projected Starter: Quentin Harris, Sr.
Daniel Jones took off early, but the Blue Devils are in fine shape with Harris – he’s the sure-thing No. 1 who’s making the team his. Chris Katrenick was the No. 3 last year, and now the sophomore is battling with redshirt freshman Gunnar Holberg to backup Harris.

Florida State Seminoles

Current Projected Starter: James Blackman, Jr.
This is going to be a whole lot of fun this August. Blackman is beefing up to get ready to be the No. 1 guy, but Alex Hornibrook didn’t transfer from Wisconsin to sit on the bench.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Current Projected Starter: Lucas Johnson, Jr.
Who can be the one to make the pivot from the former triple-option attack to what new head man Geoff Collins wants to run? Put this depth chart in pencil as three prospects start to prove they can throw the forward pass on a consistent basis.

Tobias Oliver – a key part of last year’s quarterback situation – is fighting it out with redshirt freshman James Graham and Johnson. Expect Johnson to be the best passer of the bunch, but freshmen Demetrius Knight and Jordan Yates have yet to show what they can do.

Louisville Cardinals

Current Projected Starter: Malik Cunningham, Soph.
And the starter for new head coach Scott Satterfield is … up in the air. Jawon Pass was the starter early on last season, but he’s neck-and-neck with Cunningham after spring drills. Neither one got the offense going last season.

Miami Hurricanes

Current Projected Starter: Tate Martell, Soph.
The NCAA ruling Martell eligible should change around the Hurricane offense. but he first has to win the job. N’Kosi Perry and Jarren Williams are both getting equal chances to rise up, but be shocked if this isn’t Martell’s gig. It’s a big call for new head coach Manny Diaz – one of the three will almost certainly end up transferring.

North Carolina Tar Heels

Current Projected Starter: Sam Howell, Fr.
And the honor of being Mack Brown’s starting quarterback is … ? Chazz Surratt is now a linebacker and former starter Nathan Elliott is now with Arkansas State. Cade Fortin was the top backup and got in a little work, but Jace Ruder got in plenty of practice time. The X factor is Howell, the star recruit who 1) got away from Florida State and 2) should be the one to work around from the start.

NC State Wolfpack

Current Projected Starter: Matt McKay, Soph.
Good luck replacing Ryan Finley, who carried the Wolfpack offense last season. McKay got in a little work last season, but he has to hold off Devin Leary and Florida State transfer Bailey Hockman.

Pitt Panthers

Current Projected Starter: Kenny Pickett, Jr.
Pickett fizzled a bit in what was supposed to be a big 2018 for the passing game, but he’s the almost certain starter with Jeff George Jr., Nick Patti and star recruit Davis Beville – arguably the most talented option of the bunch – battling for the No. 2 spot.

Syracuse Orange

Current Projected Starter: Tommy DeVito, Soph.
It’s a relatively thin quarterback depth chart behind DeVito – the 6-2, 207-pound presumptive starter – with senior former JUCO transfer Clayton Welch the main backup option along with junior Rex Culpepper.

Virginia Cavaliers

Current Projected Starter: Bryce Perkins, Sr.
Perkins transferred in from Arizona State and turned in a terrific first season for the Cavaliers. He’s one of the ACC’s bigger quarterback stars behind Trevor Lawrence, but the backup situation is inexperienced. Redshirt freshman Brennan Armstrong and sophomore Lindell Stone will battle to stand out as the 2020 frontrunner.

Virginia Tech Hokies

Current Projected Starter: QB Ryan Willis, Sr.
It would’ve been nice if Josh Jackson stuck around instead of transferring to Maryland, but Willis showed last year he could handle the work. He’ll have to fight off Oregon transfer Braxton Burmeister this August.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Current Projected Starter: Sam Hartman, Soph.
There’s a good battle going on between two solid young options. Hartman was the surprising starter as a freshman, but Jamie Newman stepped in and saved the season. They’ll be No. 1 and 1A going into fall camp.
