All You Really Need To Know About Baylor (19-13)
(Big 12), NCAA NET Rank: 39. West 9-seed
The Bears closed out the regular season with a resounding thud, losing four straight including an ugly 83-66 clunker to Iowa State in the Big Ten tournament. However, the overall body of work was just good enough to get in. It’s going to take something shocking offensively to make any sort of a move.
The Bears are making too many mistakes, they can’t hit free throws, and they’re suffering a power outage. However, they’re the best in the Big 12 on the boards, and they have enough of an inside presence to force teams to work from outside.
All You Really Need To Know About Syracuse (20-13)
(ACC), NCAA NET Rank: 42. West 8-seed
Way too inconsistent, the Orange managed to shock Louisville and get by Duke, but they’ve struggled down the stretch losing five of their last seven games. However, two of those losses were to Duke, one was North Carolina, and another was against Virginia.
You know what you’re getting. As always under Jim Boeheim, there’s enough to make a deep run against teams that can’t handle the defensive pressure, but if the scoring dries up, it could be a fast exit.
Free throws are a problem, and there are too many power outages, but the D generates enough steals to create easy points. There’s enough size to keep everyone but Zion Williamson from doing anything on the inside.
What’s Going To Happen
What’s the last thing a team like Baylor needs to face when it’s struggling to generate points? How about the Syracuse defense? The length and athleticism of the Bears will be negated by an Orange team that’s long, athletic, and has the type of quirky defense to drop a hammer to move on in a frustrating game for those who enjoy easy scoring.
