Just how good are all of the Mountain West teams? There are still plenty of injuries, suspensions, and depth chart changes to come over the next several months – and spring football still has to kick in – but here’s the first look.

Based off of the schedules, timing of the big games, and the talent coming back, here’s around where the win total futures should be set.

The win total line projections are based on the regular season – bowl games or conference championships don’t count. And remember, this is a cold business. The investment market will set the line as the offseason goes on.

Air Force Falcons

Air Force gets back almost everyone on the offensive front and eight starters on defense, but the returning parts have to be a whole lot better.

Colgate is good, but that’s a built-in win, and the home game against San Jose State should be close, too. Figure in losses on the road to Colorado and Boise State, and dealing with Fresno State, Army and Utah State at home will be tough. The Falcons will flirt with six wins.

Boise State Broncos

The talent is back on the offensive line with everyone returning, and eight starter are back on defense, but the schedule is a problem in the hopes of getting back to ten wins in the regular season.

Playing Florida State in Jacksonville, point to BYU, and dealing with Utah State are all winnable, but it’s possible to get two losses out of those three. The rest of the games are winnable outside of a big back.

Colorado State Rams

This one is tough, with the pieces there to make a massive comeback and be one of the Mountain West’s big surprise teams. The skill positions are good enough, and despite the problems on the defensive side, at least it’s experienced. However …

Colorado, at Arkansas, at Utah State, San Diego State, at Fresno State, at Wyoming, Boise State. The Rams will probably be the underdog in all seven games, and that doesn’t include the dates against Toledo and UNLV.

New Mexico Lobos

If everyone stays healthy, the offense might just bust out and be dangerous. However, the D has to undergo an overhaul.

As long as the Lobos get by rival New Mexico State, there should be at least a few sure wins with Sam Houston State, at San Jose State, and at Liberty all winnable. Six of the first seven games are against teams that didn’t go bowling, but the back half of the slate is a bear.

Utah State Aggies

New/old head man Gary Andersen takes over a good team full of nice skill guys, but the O line only gets one starter back, and the defense has to replace five starters. But can the Aggies go 11-2 again?

At LSU, at San Diego State, at Fresno State, at Wake Forest, and home games against Boise State and Nevada. There can’t be any slips, and they have to try to avoid at least four losses against those rough games.

CFN Early Spring Win Total Line Projection: 7.5
2018 Record: 11-2

Wyoming Cowboys

Even with five starters missing from the defensive side, the Cowboys should still be strong on that side of the ball. The offense can’t be any worse, and at least it’s experienced.

Unless that O starts to rock, figure losses to Missouri, at San Diego State, at Utah State, and at Boise State. However, the other eight games are all winnable. There might be a slip against Air Force on the road or UNLV at home, but set the bar a wee bit higher.
