2. The legend of Sam Ehlinger kicking in
This is going to be a really, really fun ride.
As if Sam Ehlinger didn’t already endear himself to the Longhorn faithful – being a Texas guy from birth and saying and doing all the things the fan base laps up – his play backed it up.
No, he’s not Tim Tebow, but he came up with his version of the “Promise” speech after getting sacked for a safety in the Big 12 Championship loss to Oklahoma, and he sure looked like the Gator legend at times with the way he pounded away for the ground game.
With his three touchdown runs against the Bulldogs – taking massive shots time and again – he passed Vince Young for the single-season Longhorn record for the most rushing touchdowns in a season by a quarterback.
He’s going to be the lightning rod going forward – his “we’re baaaaaaaack” thing will make him the foil for all Big 12 opponents …
But with his 19-of-27 day for 169 yards, and his 21 carries for 64 rushing yards and three scores, he was the man. And now …
