3. The Alabama off-week

It’s part of the world of being Alabama, and it’s used to it by now. The program lives the cliché of taking everyone’s biggest punch, mainly because almost everyone is rested and ready for the SEC’s big dog.

The Crimson Tide get their breaks, too. They get a week off before having to go to Texas A&M, a week off before facing LSU, and the Western Carolina game is scheduled before going to Auburn. They’ll be rested for the three biggest games on their schedule, but …

Texas A&M gets a week off before facing Alabama.

LSU gets a week off before facing Alabama.

Auburn gets Samford – a week off – before facing Alabama.

Mississippi State has November 9th off before playing Bama on the 16th, and South Carolina gets Charleston Southern before starting out its SEC season against Nick Saban’s club.

Throw in the opener against Duke, and that means half of the teams on Alabama’s schedule get a week off or FCS game to prepare.

Yeah … boo hoo, it’s Alabama. However, compare the six teams that get time to get ready to last year when just three teams – throwing in the opener against Louisville – got the extra chance to get ready.
