1. Ohio State just won the freaking Rose Bowl
Yeah, Ohio State was the first Power Five champion with 12 or more wins to not get into the College Football Playoff.
Yeah, it was talented enough to have found its way into the CFP – it would’ve provided more of a fight against Clemson in the Cotton than Notre Dame.
Yeah, it was Urban Meyer’s least game as the head coach, and yeah, Dwayne Haskins might go pro, and yeah, there’s a new era about to kick in, and …
Ohio State just won the freaking Rose Bowl.
If that seems and feels a little empty, it might be because it is.
The College Football Playoff means everything now, and while the Rose Bowl is hardly a poor consolation prize, the big show was on Saturday – and bigger show will be on Monday night – and Ohio State isn’t in it.
But for what it is, OSU won the Rose for the first time since beating Oregon in the 2010 version, and it was just the second one since the classic 1997 win that cost Arizona State a national title.
It’s the Rose Bowl, and the Big Ten champion beat the Pac-12 champion. It’s still cool.
