2. Someday, Washington will win a big game
Winning two Pac-12 Championships in three years is fantastic no matter what.
Under head coach Chris Petersen, the program has become the league’s biggest powerhouse – although, Oregon is looking to change that fast – but it’s missing something.
Getting to the Rose Bowl for the first time since the 2000 season is special, and going to the College Football Playoff in 2016 was amazing, but the best win over the last three years was against … Washington State this year. But that’s a Pac-12 North game. Whatever.
The Huskies lost to the loaded USC team in 2016 and got whacked by Alabama. Last season, they lost to Penn State in the Fiesta, and didn’t play anyone else all year who was all that great – except for Washington State.
This year? They lost to Auburn to start the season and lost at Oregon. And now, they lost to Ohio State.
It was a tough beat. They had to deal with a motivated Buckeye team looking to send Urban Meyer out with a bang, but still, at some point, there needs to be a nationally-defining win to go from great to elite.
But there aren’t any of those games next year – at least not in non-conference play. So if all goes well, Washington rolls through the Pac-12 and gets yet another shot.
