3. Dwayne Haskins threw 50 touchdown passes
Ohio State quarterbacks have had big seasons before.
JT Barrett threw 34 touchdown passes in the 2014 national championship season – and he would’ve thrown for more if he didn’t get hurt – and he pitched 35 last season.
Troy Smith won a Heisman throwing for 30 scores in 2006.
Dwayne Haskins threw three touchdown passes against Washington to finish with 50 in one season. To put this into perspective, Barrett finished his college career with 104 scoring throws. Five other Buckeyes who played for several years all finished with more than 50, and Art Schlichter threw 50 in his storied career.
How massive was Haskins’ season? In just this one year and a few appearances last season, he tied with Smith for fifth on the all-time Ohio State touchdown passing list.
Against the Huskies, he competed 35-of-38 passes for 251 yards and those three touchdowns. He was hit, he was pressured, and he had all the pressure on his shoulders to produce. He didn’t throw any picks, didn’t make any big mistakes, and he won a Big Ten title and the Rose Bowl.
If this is it, and if he’s off to the NFL, that’s not a bad run.
