1. LSU’s fantastic season ends with a bang
LSU was 25th in the preseason AP poll behind the likes of Florida State, Virginia Tech, USC, Miami … and UCF. The Coaches poll gave the Tigers a little more respect, putting them 24th – one spot behind UCF.
Ed Orgeron was on everyone Coaches Hot Seat list, the team was a big underdog against Miami to kick things off, and that all fed into an attitude the team had from the start and never let go.
The Tigers won five straight to start the season – all but ending Auburn’s season before it could get going. They crushed Georgia by 20, lost a thriller to Texas A&M, had a meaningful game against Bama … it was a fun year.
It had the no-win situation against UCF. It was supposed to beat the Group of Fiver, and it could’ve certainly have lost to a team as good as this.
But without Greedy Williams, and without a slew of key parts, the Tigers put up 40 points, stopped the 25-game winning streak, and closed out with ten wins and a Fiesta Bowl win.
