1. Kentucky was the absolute real deal
Yeah, go ahead Kentucky fans who yelled people like me this offseason who thought your team was going to be mediocre again … chirp away.
It’s not like UK sports fans have been starved for something to root for, but this was the first nine-win football season since 1984. And now, it’s the first ten-win season since 1977.
Beating Florida and ending the brutally long losing streak that stretched back to 1986 was massive.
UK thumped a strong Mississippi State team. It pulled off a miracle at Missouri. It got a game against Georgia in early December with a shot at the SEC East title. It destroyed Louisville.
Now it has a bowl win for the first time since beating East Carolina in the 2009 Liberty.
Now let this be a jumping off point. Now it’s time for head coach Mark Stoops to show that there’s staying power.
