5. Penn State’s season of being good, but …
It’s hard to get too mad at a nine-win season.
Penn State expects more as a program, and it was certainly hoping to get a little luck and a few breaks, but the team was too young in a few spots, rebuilding a bit overall, and in need of the strong recruiting classes to get good in a hurry.
But the Nittany Lions couldn’t close in the tight games, and it couldn’t do it again. It lost to Ohio State in a heartbreaker, dropped the 21-17 game to Michigan State, got blown out by Michigan, and now there was this.
It couldn’t beat the great teams. And Kentucky became a great team.
With this, it was a good year. Not a great one.
