Fearless predictions for all of the top 25 college basketball games for Friday, January 18

Fearless Predictions Results So Far
Straight Up: 15-4
ATS: 12-6-1
O/U: 8-10-1

Maryland (15-3) at Ohio State (12-4)

Game Time: 6:30 ET
TV Network: FS1

On a six-game winning streak including a solid road win at Minnesota and back-to-back wins at home against Indiana, Maryland has to deal with a reeling Ohio State team that lost three straight, but is now at home. The Buckeyes just aren’t scoring with not enough happening from the outside.

However, Maryland has a turnover problem, it doesn’t force mistakes, and it’s not great from the outside, either. What the Terps can do is rebound, but they’re about to deal with an OSU squad that desperately needs a big performance. The Buckeye defense will keep this low.

Prediction: Ohio State 73, Maryland 70
Line: Ohio State -2.5, o/u: 138.5

Eastern Michigan (8-9) at Buffalo (16-1)

Game Time: 7:00 ET
TV Network: ESPNU

Buffalo struggled a little too much against Western Michigan on the road before finishing the job. Still unbeaten in MAC play, the Bulls get a mediocre Eastern Michigan team that struggles way too much to score. The Eagles can’t and don’t hit from three and they turn it over way too often.

There’s a good interior presence, but it won’t be enough against a UB team that should generate easy points in transition and won’t turn the ball over. The Bulls beat EMU 74-58 on the road a few weeks ago. There will be even less of a problem this time.

Prediction: Buffalo 82, Eastern Michigan 62
Line: Buffalo -15.5, o/u: 146

Xavier (11-7) at Villanova (13-4)

Game Time: 8:30 ET
TV Network: 8:30 ET

Has Villanova found its groove again? On a five-game winning streak – including a win over St. John’s a few weeks ago – the offense is getting the the production from three to overcome a few problems on the defensive boards and with the lack of steals. Xavier has been fine, but it lost three of its four true road games. There’s not enough happening from outside, but the Musketeers are just good enough on the boards to keep this relatively close.

Prediction: Villanova 77, Xavier 70
Line: Villanova -9.5, o/u: 137.5
