3. Brock Purdy almost outplayed Gardner Minshew. Almost.

Silver lining time for Iowa State.

Washington State is losing its star quarterbacks, and the Cyclones are getting back its main man for the next few years.

Minshew come into this as the guy in the Heisman running, and he was good, completing 35-of-49 passes for 299 yards and two scores, and he led the team with just 16 rushing yards with a touchdown.

Brock Purdy completed 18-of-27 points for 315 yards and two picks, and he ran for 46 yards and two scores. He’s established as the young rising star for the program, but he missed on a two-point conversion that was wide open for a score with just over four minutes to play, and Minshew managed to run out the clock.

It was a loss for the Cyclones, but they went toe-to-toe with a team in the College Football Playoff hunt up until late November. They were just fine, even in defeat.
