5. Memphis … you play … to win … the game …
Memphis. It’s … a … bowl game. You go for it. You go for the win. You go all out to pull it off.
Down 37-34 late, the Tigers came up with a big late drive – helped by a Wake Forest squib kick – starting by Brady White finding Joey Magnifico for a 44-yard strike to get down to the Demon Deacon 17 with 13 seconds left.
Did Memphis go all out try for a touchdown and the win? Not really.
It tried one pass, and then played for the field goal. As good as PK Riley Patterson is – he hit 15-of-19 in the regular season – he’s a college kicker. One 43-yard attempt later, and instead of overtime, Wake Forest is your 2018 Jared Birmingham Bowl champ.
