You’ve Read This Far, So You Get Three Honest Thoughts On The VRBO Citrus Bowl
– Notre Dame and LSU managed to stop a brutally ugly slide of games in this bowl’s series. The Irish’s fantastic 21-17 comeback victory over the Tigers was the first tight, good Citrus Bowl since the last time Penn State was in it – a 19-17 win over LSU in the 2010 game.
The six game in between were all by double-digits, but to be fair, the South Carolina 34-24 win over Wisconsin in 2014 was entertaining. In general, this has been a mismatch lately when it’s been SEC vs. Big Ten – the outcome will dictate the narrative and new trend.
– It’s the last bowl game of the 2018 college football season without some sort of designation. The College Football Playoff semifinals will have already been played, and the New Year’s Six will get off and running on the 29th with Michigan and Florida going at it in the Chick-fil-A Peach.
This gets started just as the Fiesta Bowl with UCF and LSU getting started – there’s a chance this game gets swallowed up by the next NY6 game up, and it’s followed up by the Rose, and the Sugar, and then the College Football Playoff national championship.
– This will be an interesting test for the Kentucky offensive style. The Cats didn’t score more than 28 against anyone in the SEC, and only exploded against the Group of Fivers, Murray State, and the weaklings on the slate. But for all the fun and for all the pop of the Penn State attack, there was absolutely nothing consistent about it over the second half of the season.
Super. So Who’s Going To Win The VRBO Citrus Bowl?
It won’t seem logical, and it’ll be hard to figure out how it’s happening on the fly, but Kentucky will manage to stay in this throughout. Penn State will pull it off – the pass rush and plays in the backfield will overcome a shaky overall day against the run – but it’ll take a fight to get it done.
There might be bigger games going on over the rest of New Year’s Day, but this one might just be the most interesting in the fourth quarter. But it’s Trace McSorley in a big moment – the Penn State quarterback will pull it off in his final game.
