Tulane beat Louisiana 41-24 to win the AutoNation Cure Bowl. Five thoughts and analysis of the win, and what does it all mean?
5. Yeah, the American Athletic Conference needed to win this
Losing in a bowl game is no big deal, but if you’re the American Athletic Conference, and you’ve been chirpy about wanting be included at the adult table, you can’t have one of your teams losing to a Sun Belt squad.
America has grown weary of the UCF whining – especially now that it’s getting called out for its “no one will play us” thing, but there can’t be losses in games like this for the league.
And Tulane carried the water.
The Green Wave got down early, but they went on a 24-point run to get the cushion they needed to withstand a Louisiana rally in the second half. Darius Bradwell ran for 150 yards and two scores, Justin McMillan threw well enough to go along with his 72 rushing yards, and the American Athletic Conference got its 17-point win.
It’ll get thrown on the pile of random bowl wins, but 41-24 looks good. It’s a big start in the hunt to be a part of the Power 6.
How did the Green Wave do it?
