5. At least it was close
It might have been a brutal battle with no offense, miserable quarterback play, and with Cal losing star RB Patrick Laird early to a shoulder injury. But considering how ugly most of the bowl games have been so far, at least this was interesting until the end.
For these minor bowls, of course you want a wild and crazy shootout – and this bowl has had them before. Of course you want entertainment and big offensive plays if you’re going to stay up so late.
But with the SERVPRO First Responders Bowl quitting on itself, and with the Minnesota win over Georgia Tech in the Quick Lane such a blowout, take it.
On this Wednesday of bowl games, there had to be something interesting, and this was it. This was how these teams played all season long – at least with tough defenses – and this game turned out to be representative of the regular season campaigns.
