Why Boise State Will Win The SERVPRO First Responder Bowl
– The Boston College running game rolled for 200 rushing yards or more in all seven of its wins – but was under the mark in all five losses. And now it’ll have to crack the code of the Boise State defense that only gave up more than 180 yards once all year, and that came against an Air Force team that only runs. BC has an efficient passing game, but if it’s not pounding the ball, it’s in trouble.
– The Boise State defense was and is fantastic, and the offensive side was as efficient and effective as any in the country. The O finished third in college football on third downs, converting 53% of the time as it held on to the ball for well over 33 minutes per game.
Boston College is a time of possession disaster – keeping it for fewer than 28 minutes per game and converting just 34% of its third down tries – and now it has to go against a Bronco defense that was ninth in the nation on third down stops allowing teams to hit on just 31% of their attempts.
– No one has recovered more fumbles than Boise State. The Bronco defense has pounced on 17 on the season, is ninth in the nation in turnover margin, and doesn’t screw up enough to give anyone a slew of easy chances. Late in the year, Boston College got way too loose with the giveaways, turning it over six times in the final two games.
