Three Reasons Why You Should Watch The R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl

Technically, this is a terrific matchup now that the Sun Belt champion is locked into this bowl – at least for right now. Appalachian State has been fantastic throughout its Sun Belt Championship season, starting out with a thrilling run at Penn State in a tough late loss, and closing out with a strong win to take the league’s first conference title game. It’s, arguably, one of the three best Group of Five teams this season.

– Middle Tennessee is coming off a tough loss to UAB in the Conference USA Championship, finishing up a strong season with a hot second half run. It’s an opportunistic team with a good pass rush, and efficient passing game, even if the offense didn’t explode on anyone but it’s league’s weaker teams. Win, and it would be a huge feather in the Conference USA cap.

Now, the game became even more interesting with the loss of Appalachian State head coach Scott Satterfield to Louisville. Mark Ivey has been the assistant head coach – nothing much should change – but he’s still an interim coach as the school looks for the best new option. If the team plays at a high level in a blowout, Ivey just might stick as the full-time guy.
