Redbox Bowl: Michigan State vs. Oregon Fearless Prediction, Game Preview

You’ve Read This Far, So You Get Three Honest Thoughts On The Redbox Bowl

Oregon was one of the surest bowl teams going for a stretch, wining four straight including the first ever College Football Playoff game – the Rose Bowl win over Florida State. But starting with the CFP national title loss to Ohio State, the Ducks have dropped three straight.

The three-overtime collapse to TCU in the 2016 Alamo was the beginning of the end of the Mark Helfrich era, and last year’s clunker against a fired up Boise State in the 2017 Las Vegas wasn’t fun. The future might be bright under Mario Cristobal, but winning this would accelerate the process.

This is one of those Mark Dantonio Moment games. Oregon is better, Michigan State’s offense is yuck, and it’s been sort of a sour season with nothing going consistently right. And yet, with time to prepare, watch out for this defense to pull off something special. At least, that’s the idea. The Spartans beat Penn State, but they lost to Ohio State and got shelled by Michigan. A bowl win would define the campaign.

It’ll be interesting to see the ratings on this for a full four quarters. It’s stuck in the glut of bowls with Cincinnati and Virginia Tech starting up early, Stanford and Pitt going on at the same time, and Missouri and Oklahoma State kicking it in as this is underway. If it’s boring, and there really is no Michigan State offense, this could be a tough watch. However, it’s the main event game on New Year’s Eve day.

Super. So Who’s Going To Win The Redbox Bowl?

Mark Dantonio and this defense will figure it out.

Few teams needed to rest up and recharge more than MSU. Yes, the offense scored six points against both Ohio State and Nebraska, and yes, it beat Rutgers 14-10. But with LJ Scott back, a healthier Brian Lewerke, and the time off overall, the O will do just enough to help out a killer performance from the D.
