Why Nevada Will Win The NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl
– Yeah, Arkansas State’s defense is strong at getting into the backfield, but the Nevada defense lives in the backfield. Malik Reed and the aptly-named Korey Rush lead one of the nation’s most dangerous defenses at getting into the backfield. The Pack finished with 32 sacks and 93 tackles for loss, with six or more plays behind the line in ten of the 12 games. The ASU O line is great, but it’s about to be under siege.
– Nevada doesn’t run the ball too much, but it can. When the O rips it up for 200 yards or more, the team is 3-1 with the lone loss coming in a wild and crazy shootout with Toledo. To take this a little bit further, Nevada is 5-1 when running for two scores or more. Why does this matter? ASU’s run defense can get hammered on, giving up 200 yards or more six times. When teams commit to the ground game, it works.
– Arkansas State’s secondary was good, but it only came up with multiple picks in three games. Out of the ten interceptions on the season, eight came in this three games, and two came in the other nine. Nevada’s O gave away 15 interceptions, but they were spread out, going 0-3 when throwing multiple picks. Nevada … don’t throw multiple picks.
