North Texas (9-3) vs. Utah State (10-2) Game Preview
Three Reasons Why You Should Watch The New Mexico Bowl
– Under normal circumstances this would be be one of the most exciting, highest-flying offensive shows of the bowl season, and it still might be. However, Utah State head coach Matt Wells is off to be the new Texas Tech head man, and Gary Andersen is on his way … but not yet. Even so, this should be a blast. Get ready for this to be exactly what you’re looking for out of an early bowl.
– The North Texas offense led Conference USA in scoring averaging 36 points per game, led by veteran bomber Mason Fine and a passing game that put up 316 yards per outing. Overall, it was a disappointing season considering the Mean Green were among the favorites to win the Conference USA championship. But there’s still a shot at a ten-win season, and all three losses were by a total of 13 points.
– Utah State was terrific at the start of the season in the near-upset of Michigan State, and it kept on rolling throughout a dominant run, scoring 42 points or more in eight of nine games before slowing down late. The 33-24 loss to Boise State kept it out of Mountain West title game, but it was still a strong enough season to get to ten wins – and get Wells a bigger gig.
