1. This is what Minnesota showed it can do
For some, a bowl game is just an extra exhibition. For the Gophers, it should be something to build on.
There were signs that things were changing under PJ Fleck – but it took a while to get there.
The 53-28 loss to Nebraska was awful, and the 55-31 loss to Illinois was embarrassing. But just when the season looked like it wasn’t going anywhere as November was getting going, the 265 rushing yards and huge defensive performance against Purdue for a 41-10 win showed a sign of life.
It was the 201-yard rushing day and dominant defensive performance in the win over Wisconsin that might have changed the program.
And now there was this. Minnesota was fabulous defensively, tough with the ground attack, and looked a half-step quicker in all phases as it owned the game from start to finish.
