Three Reasons Why You Should Watch The Military Bowl Presented By Northrup Grumman Bowl
– UCF is the only other Group of Five team to play this bowl season after Cincinnati gets its shot on a big stage. The game kicks off a huge day of New Year’s Eve bowl games, and the Bearcats get a few hours all to themselves before the Sun Bowl – Pitt vs. Stanford – kicks off. Winning four of the last five games, the Bearcats only dropped a game to UCF along the way.
There isn’t a great win on the slate – winning at UCLA isn’t bad – but the team was dominant against a whole slew of mediocre teams. Now is the chance to take a big step forward under head man Luke Fickell in his second year.
– Virginia Tech had to work its way to get the right to play more football. The Hokies were a massive disappointment – losing five games in six and with a blowout gack at Old Dominion – but they rallied to sack Virginia for a rivalry win, triggering a 12th game against Marshall. They won, the 25-year bowl run kept on going, and now this should be a team that plays with a fire and fight that most Power Fivers wouldn’t bring to a bowl like this.
– These two did the bowl thing before, with Virginia Tech beating the Bearcats in this bowl in 2014 – it was one of best-attended Military Bowls of the ten. They also played in the 2009 Orange Bowl and battled in the 1946 Sun Bowl – Virginia Tech won the Orange, Cincinnati took down the Sun. This is the 12th meeting between the two schools that are only around 300 miles apart. There’s just enough of a regional thing happening to make this a wee bit contentious.
