4. Head coach Barry Odom got his top recruit
The 2019 Missouri recruiting class is okay so far, but it’s nothing special quite yet. There’s still time, but so far, it’s a typical okay class, but without anything special outside of defensive back Jalani Williams out of St. Louis.
But getting Kelly Bryant changes all of that.
Odom quietly came up with a strong season, and now he’s on a roll, winning 14 of his last 19 games and getting Missouri fo the AutoZone Liberty Bowl against Oklahoma State. But getting Bryant made a splash. Getting him shows that Mizzou might just be a player going into next year.
Bryant isn’t going to be necessarily better than Drew Lock – the Second Team All-SEC star who came up with another great season – but he’ll be something different. He’ll add more of a rushing element to worry about, and he’ll be allowed to turn it loose with the passing game.
Under offensive coordinator Derek Dooley, he should blossom. He’ll be tutored well, he’ll become a stronger reader of defenses, and should be put in positions to look and play like a pro-style passer.
If he succeeds, now Odom and Mizzou become even hotter when it comes to getting long looks from the better quarterback prospects.
