Three Reasons Why You Should Watch The Hyundai Sun Bowl

Okay, Pitt. You know that four game run when you ran all over everyone and everything? Yeah … do more of that, and this will be a whale of a Hyundai Sun Bowl.

The Panthers rolled in an amazing month when they could do no wrong offensively, and that was enough to get them to the ACC Championship. That was all fine, right up until they got destroyed by Clemson. This is a good team, but it could use this win to legitimize everything else that happened over the course of the season.

Stanford was a successful failure. It started out 4-0, closed out with three wins, and in between it lost four games in five as it politely exited the Pac-12 championship discussion. This isn’t your normal Stanford. The O line play was mediocre, the downfield passing attack was a blast, and the defense wasn’t anywhere near up to its normal snuff. But it’s a fun team that unlike Pitt comes in on a roll.

– Little trivia time for you to impress your friends at parties – at least, impress them if your friends are weird and sort of dull. This is the fourth meeting between these two programs, with the first a 16-7 Pitt win in Palo Alto to close out the 1922 season. The third meeting was a 7-0 Pitt home victory on the way to the 1933 Rose Bowl – a total wipeout loss to USC. The middle one was the 1928 Rose Bowl, a 7-6 Stanford win to spoil an undefeated Pitt season, complete with wins over Grove City, Theil and Allegheny. This time, it’s personal.
