2. Jim Harbaugh’s big, big issue

He’s been a whole lot better at Michigan than anyone wants to give him credit for, mainly because he can’t beat Ohio State.

Losing to the Buckeyes isn’t anything to hammer anyone too hard on, but coming off the ugly blowout, the team needed to come out and rock. How did it respond after closing out the regular season by giving up 62 points?

It produced this.

This makes it three straight bowl losses in rough fashion. Dropping the 2016 Orange to Florida was was no big deal – that was a classic fight. But after the choke/collapse against South Carolina in the 2018 Outback, and now this, it all gets thrown onto the pile with those Ohio State losses.

Even so, it’s a third ten-win season in four years. There have been plenty of good wins, and lots of success, but by this point, Michigan was supposed to be playing in the College Football Playoff.

It can’t even win the Chick-fil-A Peach, and now, until proven otherwise, just assume Michigan is going to stay a full step below the true big boys.

Harbaugh just can’t get this program over the hump. This was its chance in Atlanta, and instead of being a statement game, it was a total disaster.
