BYU (6-6) vs. Western Michigan (7-5) Game Preview
Three Reasons Why You Should Watch The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
– The Famous Idaho Potato has turned into one of the weirdest, wildest bowl games on a consistent basis. Whether it was the Central Michigan turnover-fest in last year’s loss to Wyoming, or the 61-50 Idaho win over Colorado State the year before, or because nine of the last 14 games have been as close and as good as any games in the respective post-seasons, this has become an underground hit of a bowl.
– BYU has had a strange, inconsistent season, but even though there were way too many misfires, ending with a bowl win would take some of the heat off of head coach Kalani Sitake and point toward 2019, with a decent-looking group returning.
The Cougars were able to beat Arizona and Wisconsin on the road, but they suffered in-state losses to Utah State and Utah – a big issue for the base – and couldn’t get the offense going in far too many games. Winning this would be a big, big boost for everything around the program. Losing would be a big, big problem.
– Western Michigan games are interesting. There have been a few blowouts along the way, but even those had at least a big boost of an offensive pop from one side. Five of the final eight games were decided by seven points or fewer. Considering there’s little pressure on the Broncos compared to what the Cougars are dealing with, they can turn loose an offense that has enough pop to make this fun.
