Oklahoma vs. Alabama

– Tua Tagovailoa’s ankle is fine. If Alabama biffs this, it won’t be the Tua’s ankle that does it.

– Crazy thought. Auburn set an SEC bowl record with 63 points put up on Purdue in the Camping World. Alabama might be able to hit that, and it’ll still be a fight to pull this off.

– The Alabama secondary can and will give up big pass plays. Kyler Murray and the Oklahoma offense will work, and it’ll keep up the pace, but …

– LSU is the comp. Watch how Alabama looks the part with NFL wave after NFL wave of rushing talent as the pressure gets taken off of Tagovailoa from the start – just like the the ground game did against LSU. The more Bama can grind, the better.

– It’ll be just fine out in Miami Gardens. It’ll be around 75ish, but the humidity should be a factor for two teams that might be used to dealing with warm weather to the heat, but aren’t going to be in perfect game shape despite all of the practice time. In the pea soup humidity, watch out for conditioning to be a wee bit of an issue.

– It’s been my theory throughout the bowl season when it comes to the money line … why not? Could Kyler Murray be the type of baller quarterback who pulls this off? Could Oklahoma win a wild and crazy shootout? Georgia almost beat the Tide, and The Citadel provided a few problems – okay, bad example. But a +450 for an Oklahoma team with this much talent and this much offense is too spicy to blow off.

– The over on 78? Yeah, there’s always the fear that a rested Alabama defense has this thing figured out and turns out the lights on the Oklahoma offense. There’s also the chance the Alabama is unstoppable against the tissue paper Sooner defense and puts up 78 on its own. Go with the over – this will be a track meet for a half.

– Best guess on how this will go? Go with Oklahoma +7.5 with the first half line, go lukewarm on over on the 40 in the first half, and then hammer down in the second half as the Bama defense takes over.

– Don’t blow off just how good Alabama is with rest and time to prepare. Clemson last year, Washington the year before, Michigan State the year before that … Bama knows how to be ready for the semifinals ever since being run over by Zeke Elliott and Ohio State in the first year.

– Don’t blow off just how grouchy Alabama is about Kyler Murray winning the Heisman. This might just be one of those media generated narratives that’s for real. Murray is so good that it might not matter, but focus really, really, really isn’t an issue for the Tide after their guy finished second.

– That 14 is a big number. But you’ll be okay. You’re never wrong going with Alabama.
