Cotton Bowl Preview & Prediction

5. Yeah, Georgia really is one of the four best teams …

At least, that’s how it seems at the moment before getting its shot at Texas in the Sugar.

The outcome dictates the narrative on this one. Notre Dame was a very good team that managed to go 12-0. But in hindsight, was it really one of the four best teams by the eyeball test? Not really, but it absolutely deserved to be in the College Football Playoff. And that’s the problem.

More than ever, this game proves the College Football Playoff has to expand to eight. Notre Dame needed to be in. And so did Georgia after proving it was good enough to come this close to winning the SEC Championship. And so did Ohio State after winning the Big Ten title. But …

One game isn’t a be-all-end-all, definitive statement on a system, but Notre Dame being totally outclassed like this proves that something really is off.

NEXT: It’s a shame Clemson couldn’t get over the loss of Dexter Lawrence
