Cal (7-5) vs. TCU (6-6) Game Preview
Three Reasons Why You Should Watch The Cheez-It Bowl
– This might not exactly be something to entice you, but for those who despised the wild-and-crazy offensive shootouts like the Chiefs vs. the Rams, or Oklahoma vs., well, everyone, this is for you. It will be partly about the bad offenses, but the defense are terrific in what should be a close dogfight throughout. Both programs worked hard to get here, and it should show.
– Going bowling isn’t a normal thing for Cal. This is the first trip to a post-season game under head coach Justin Wilcox, and it’s just the second bowl appearance since Jeff Tedford took the program to the 2011 Holiday. It was hardly a sure thing to get here after losing to Washington State in early November, but with stunning defensive performance against USC, and cementing the bowl with a win over Colorado, it’s been a breakthrough season.
– TCU could’ve quit, probably should’ve quit, and didn’t quit. The season went into the tank after injuries and close losses led to a run of five losses in six games, but the Horned Frogs fought through game after game to go 3-1 in November to get bowl eligible. They needed to beat Baylor and Oklahoma State to do it, and they got the job done.
