1. The Gus Malzahn show rolls on
There’s no coach in college football this season whose job status was a weekly status report more than Gus Malzahn’s.
There were GoFundMe efforts to get pay off his buyout. There were Hot Seat lists with his name at the top after the loss to Tennessee and a 4-3 start.
There have been pitchforks and torches throughout the season, starting with the loss to LSU at home, and going on through the losses to Georgia and Alabama late.
Destroying Purdue 63-14 in an okay bowl doesn’t change anything too much – don’t … lose … to Oregon … to start 2019 – but it sure does make life better for him and the program for the next eight months.
Put it this way. If he and Auburn had lost to Purdue 63-14, he’s almost certainly out.
The bowl season can be a fickle thing.
