2. Does Army have a big advantage?

Some coaches would like to have a whole year to prepare for a game.

Getting the guys healthy, the prep work, and breakdown, and everything that goes into a game all makes a difference with a ton of time off. That’s why Nick Saban says every year in the CFP that his team is at its best for the semifinal, because it’s rested, and then it’s beaten up again.

For Army, though, it might have had the perfect situation.

It’s second-to-last game was on November 17th against Colgate. There was a full three weeks off to get ready for Navy, and that lag also meant there were two weeks off to prepare for Houston. The team could stay in its routine – for the most part – while having just enough time to get healthier.

Houston struggled over the last month of the season, but it’s been off for a month. This looked and played like a team that had to try getting it all going again – obviously, it wasn’t sharp.
