4. Kelvin Hopkins’ day
And that James Nachtigal guy was alright, too.
The Army linebacker cranked up 16 tackles and 3.5 of the team’s ten sacks. The defense was amazing, but …
This game was about the O.
Kelvin Hopkins got hurt and missed out on the last few drives, but before the star quarterback was done, he finished with 170 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 11 carries, and completed all three of his passes for 70 yards and a score.
He hadn’t rushed for more than 100 yards since the loss to Oklahoma on September 22nd. While he handled the attack perfectly all season long, it wasn’t his job to be the main man to run the ball.
Against Houston, he didn’t need to be a workhorse. He just needs a few carries to take over the early part of the bowl season with one of its most memorable performances.
