1. That’s how the Sun Belt champion should play
The Sun Belt took a hit when Louisiana dropped the AutoNation Cure earlier in the day, but it bounced back with a thrilling walk-off win on a Georgia Southern field goal to win the Raycom Media Camellia over Eastern Michigan.
Its champion in this game was the one the league needed. Appalachian State is the standard bearer, and it just destroyed a team that came this close to winning the Conference USA title.
Okay, so there really were too many penalties, too many mistakes, and a few turnovers, but the Mountaineers played without fear. They were innovative, the took risks, and the offense rolled with excellent execution to put the game away by halftime.
The defense attacked, attacked, and attacked some more, only allowing two field goals before a meaningless late touchdown.
Troy still has to face Buffalo in the Dollar General, and Arkansas State is faring Nevada in the NOVA Home Loans Arizona, but no matter what else happens, the pressure is off.
The Sun Belt star did its job.
